How it works

Each site is independent in voice. calgarysaddledome.com sounds nothing like calgarykids.com, and that's the point. They serve different Calgarians.

They share infrastructure. One database (Supabase), one AI concierge (Dusty), one event feed pulling from Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, and the City of Calgary's open-data feed. When the Saddledome announces a tour, every relevant site in the network surfaces it within an hour.

They share the Friday Roundup. Stories filed on any site bubble up to The Calgary Roundup newsletter every Friday morning.

The whole thing is independent and free. No paid placements, no sponsored tiles, no pay-to-list directories. We make it because nobody else is making it for Calgary.

Why a network instead of one big site

One mega-site would try to serve everyone and serve nobody. A network of focused sites means the people who want hockey can read the hockey site, the people who want playgrounds can read the kids site, and Google can rank each one for what it actually is — without the duplicate-content penalties of subsections of a megasite.

The shared infrastructure (Dusty, the Roundup, the event feed) means each site gets the leverage of a much bigger publication without losing its specific voice. It's the same operating model a magazine chain used to have, applied to the post-2025 internet.
